SUBMISSIONS TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

FOR PRECLEARANCE UNDER SECTION 5 OF THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Gila County Department of Elections has submitted the following requests for preclearance under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act:

Gila County Supervisorial Redistricting Plan

Gila County Community College Redistricting Plan

Gila County Precinct Boundary and Polling Place Change Plan

Submission materials are available for public review at the Gila County Department of Elections, 5515 S Apache Ave, Globe, AZ 85501, or at the Gila County Administration Building, 610 E Hwy 260, Payson, AZ 85541.

PRECINCT BOUNDARY AND POLLING PLACE CHANGES

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Gila County Board Of Supervisors will consider proposed Precinct Boundary and Polling Place changes at the Board of Supervisors meeting to be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Gila County Courthouse, 1400 E Ash Street, Globe, AZ.

The proposed changes will affect the Pine-Strawberry, Carrizo, Sierra Ancha, Globe #1, Globe #2, Globe #3, Globe #4, Globe #5, Globe #6East Globe, Miami #1, Miami #3, Claypool #2, Claypool #3, Hayden, Winkelman, Christmas, and San Carlos precincts.

Public Notice from the Gila County Board of Elections

Public Notice

The Gila County Board of Supervisors will conduct a work session to discuss proposed alternative plans for the Redistricting of the Board of Supervisor Districts and proposed alternative plans for Redistricting of Community College Districts on September 20, 2011, as part of the regular Board of Supervisors meeting to be held beginning at 10 a.m.
Mapping alternatives under consideration are available for public review at the Gila County website http://www.gilacountyaz.gov/.
The Board will adopt a final Supervisorial District plan and a final Community College District plan at the regular Board meeting to be held Monday, October 3, 2011 at 10 a.m.
These meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room in the Gila County Courthouse, Globe, Arizona. ITV will be available from the Gila County Administration Building in Payson. Questions can be directed to the Gila County Department of Elections at 928-402-8709.

Por este medio se notifica al publico que la Junta de Supervisores del Condado de Gila ofrecira un taller de trabajo para discutir las propuestas de mapas alternativos para la redistribucion de distritos de la Junta de Supervisores, y las propuestas de mapas alternativos de redistribucion de distritos del Colegio Comunitario. Este taller se llevara a cabo durante la sesion normal de Junta de Supervisores programada para el dia 20 de Septiembre de 2011 a las 10:00 a.m.
Las propuestas de mapas alternativos que seran evaluadas pueden ser examinadas por el publico en la pagina de la sitio web del Condado de Gila: http://www.gilacountyaz.gov/.
La Junta tomara la decision final sobre el mapa definitivo de Supervisores y el mapa definitivo del Colegio Comunitario durante la sesion normal programada para el dia lunes 3 de Octubre de 2011, a las 10:00 a.m.

GCC Board to meet with County Supervisors to discuss land sale for ASU campus

Will sale of land effect growth of GCC?

 

The Gila Community College Board meets Tuesday, September 27 with the Gila County Board of Supervisors to discuss the sale of GCC campus land to the Arizona State University group, SLE, for the first phase of the campus in Payson.

According to GCC Board member Tom Loeffler, the transfer for land will determine the future growth potential of GCC.

Since the land in question is currently county land, the Gila County Board of Supervisors will have the final say on any land transfer.

Gila County Supervisors to hold second round of redistricting meetings

Public Notice is Hereby Given That the Gila County Board of Supervisors

Will Hold a Second Round of Public Hearings for the Purpose of Receiving Public Review and Comment on Proposed Alternative Plans for Redistricting of the Board of Supervisor Districts and Proposed Alternative Plans for Redistricting of the Community College Districts

Second Round Meetings are open to the public and are scheduled as follows:

The public is encouraged to attend the above meetings and make comments on the Redistricting mapping alternatives. Comments may be made (1) in person at the meetings; (2) via the Gila County Website www.gilacountyaz.gov  (click on the orange and yellow Gila County Redistricting banner and follow the links  to the “Internet Public Comment Form” ; (3) by sending a letter to the Gila County Department of Elections, 5515 S Apache Ave, Suite 900, Globe, AZ  85501.  Questions can be directed to the Gila County Department of Elections at 928.402.8709.

Gila County redistricting workshop sessions announced

Globe August 18, 2011 -- The Gila County Board of Supervisors will conduct a Gila County Redistricting Work Session in the Hearing Room of the Gila County Courthouse at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.  During this meeting the Board will be discussing mapping alternatives received from the Redistricting Advisory Committee as well as other public input that has been received to date.  The workshop is open to the public and will be conducted via ITV in the Payson Administration Building Conference Room. 

Important future redistricting dates are:

• 8/23 10 a.m. Board of Supervisors Work Session - Board discusses public comments received and evaluates alternative mapping ideas received to date.
• 9/6  10 a.m. Board of Supervisors Meeting - Board finalizes which redistricting mapping alternatives will go out for comment during the second round of public meetings to be held throughout the county.
• 9/6  TBA     Second round of public meetings - a series of public meetings will be held in order for the public to comment on the various county redistricting alternatives.
• 9/20 10 a.m. Board of Supervisors Work Session - Board discusses public comments received and evaluates alternative mapping ideas received to date.
• 10/4 10 a.m. Board of Supervisors Meeting - Board selects final Supervisorial and College District Maps.

The public is encouraged to attend meetings and make comments on the various Redistricting ideas being proposed. 18 de Agosto, 2011 – Una reunión de trabajo sobre la redistribución de distritos del condado de Gila se llevará a cabo en la Sala de Audiencias de  la Junta de Supervisores el día martes 23 de agosto de 2011 a las 10:00 am.  La Junta discutirá los mapas entregados por el Comité Consultivo de Redistribución de Distritos; así como las sugerencias sometidas por el público hasta la fecha.   La sesión de trabajo estará abierta al público y será transmitida por televisión interactiva en la sala de conferencias del edificio administrativo de Payson.

Fechas a notar para la redistribución de distritos:

• 8/23 10 a.m. Session de trabajo de la Junta de Supervisores - La Junta discutera los comentarios provenintes del publico y evaluara las diversas propuestas de mapas recibidas a la fecha.
• 9/6  10 a.m. Reunion de la Junta de Supervisores - La Junta determinara las propuestas de mapas del proceso de redistrubucion de distritos que seran discutidas durante la segund ronda de reuniones publicas a convocarse en el condado.
• 9/6  TBA     Segunda ronda de reuniones publicas. Durante estas reuniones el publico podra discutir diferentes propuestas de redistribucion de distritos del condado.
• 9/20 10 a.m. Sesion de trabajo de la Junta de Supervisores - La Junta discutire los comentarios proporcionados por el publico y evaluara las propuestas de mapas recibidas hasta la fecha.
• 10/4 10 a.m. Reunion de Junta de Supervisores - La Junta elegria el mapa difinitivo de distrito del Colegio Comunitario y del distrito de Superisores del Condado de Gila.
