ATM Armed Robbery Attempt

Payson Police seek suspect in B of A robbery attempt

Payson Police are seeking information from the public on the suspect in an attempted armed robbery that occured January 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bank of America at 213 S. Beeline Highway and are warning people who use the ATMs at the bank to be aware of suspicious activity.

Payson Police Detective Matt Van Camp, who heads the investigation, said, "We want people to be aware of their surroundings. If they notice any suspicious activity, they should call police and we'll send a patrolman out."

Van Camp said the female victim was at the north side of the bank at the drive-up ATM window when she was approached by a young male, either in his late teens or early 20's, whose face was covered and who brandished a hand gun and demanded money.

At this point police are not releasing any information on what the suspect used to cover his face. Payson Police Chief Don Engler said the suspect left the scene without getting any cash from the victim, but did not reveal any more details on the incident due to the ongoing investigation.
Van Camp said the suspect left the area on foot heading east and may have had a vehicle parked away from the bank. The female victim called 9-1-1 and described the suspect as being about 5'6" tall, wearing dark clothing.

Police are requesting that anyone having any information on this incident call Det. Matt Van Camp at (928) 474-5177, ext. 251 or (928) HOT TIPS (928-469-8477).
