Payson Police to enforce residency requirements

The Payson Police Department will be conducting an enforcement detail over the next few months in an attempt to seek Arizona residency compliance for operating a motor vehicle and obtaining an Arizona driver’s license within the state.

New residents to Arizona are required to register their vehicle in Arizona and obtain an Arizona driver’s license once they establish residency.

Under Arizona law new residents have 10 days to obtain an Arizona driver’s license once they have established residency. However, their motorized vehicles must be registered in the State of Arizona immediately upon establishing Arizona residency.

A few ways a person establishes residency in Arizona is by being a registered voter, enrolling a child in public school or having employment in the state. There are some exceptions to these rules.

For further information, see Arizona Revised Statute 28-2001 for more definitions of residency and exceptions.
