Beware, be warned - there are folks out there playing tricks on us.
It's Sunday and we have nothing better to do than to follow the trail that lead us to the story of "Brutus, the K9 Congressional Medal of Honor winner". Actually, we are following a new trail - that of how the hoax was perpetrated and just who this dog might be.
We searched the internet for "Brutus, K9 Congressional Medal of Honor" and found a site that investigates hoaxes, misrepresentations, and downright lies. Snopes.com at http://www.snopes.com might prove a useful tool for future investigations into stories that we all come across in this age of high tech communications.
We do so want to believe - but there are folks out there playing tricks on us. Beware, be warned.
According to Snopes.com, a representative of the Arizona Law Enforcement Canine Association wrote and provided what is reported to be the real background of the dog in the photo we published earlier. The representative provided the following information:
"The dog's name is not Brutus; in fact, his name is 'Spike' and he was never a military working dog. Spike is a retired Police Service Dog who served honorably during the years 2001 to 2007 with the Scottsdale Police Department's K-9 Unit in Scottsdale, Arizona, under his handler, Officer Scott DiIullo."
The above statement is an excerpt from the statement provided by the Arizona Law Enforcemeent Canine Association. The story of Brutus also had other problems and statements that were false.
