Wallow Fire now at more than a half million acres

Evacuation orders lifted for Alpine residents


The largest fire in Arizona's history has now grown to 500,409 acres, but as of Saturday, June 18, was 38 percent contined.
Evacuation orders for Alpine residents were lifted at 10 a.m. Saturday, but residents of Sunrise, Greer and Blue River have not yet been allowed back in their homes. Meetings for evacuees will be held daily at 10 a.m. at Blue Ridge High School.
Alpine residents returning home should check in at the Wallow Fire ICP Information Station at the Rodeo Grounds in Eager.
For those dealing with evacuations and for those returning, a crisis intervention line has been set up to provide stress counseling through individual, family and group sessions. The number to call, (928) 333-2683.
Eleven injuries have been reported, but no information is currently available on the severity of the injuries.
Firefighters are clearing out equipment from Sunrise Resort, which is expected to re-open in a few days.
On Saturday and Sunday a combination of strong winds and low relative humidity could create extreme fire growth,
Winds are expected to be gusting up to 50 mph on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
