Wallow Fire Update

The Wallow Fire is five percent contained, estimated to be at 386,690 acres in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest

The latest press release on the Wallow Fire, posted at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 9, reports a five percent containment of the blaze which is currently estimated to be at 386,690 acres.

A total of 5,242 structures are threatened in the communities surrounding Alpine in Eastern Arizona and a pre-evacuation alert has been issued for Greens Peak and Hidden Meadow and surrounding areas and for residents of Luna, New Mexico.  Thousands of residents in other communities have already evacuated.

There have been three minor injuries reported, 29 homes destroyed, five homes damaged. A truck was destroyed and numerous outbuildings were damaged.

Personnel on the fire includes 3,012 firefighters, among them 24 hotshot crews and 79 hand crews. There are 18 dozers, 197 engines, 61 tenders and 16 helicopters fighting the blaze.
A dozer line is being constructed along 260 heading west from Eager to the Highway 373 junction, then southeast to Greer Lake to prepare for burnout.

An additional burnout is being prepped with a dozer line in the south end of Greer Valley heading southwest to Highway 273 at Sheep's Crossing.

A dozer line will take place on the east side of Escudilla Mountain southeast toward Luna, New Mexico.

All fuel moisture remains extremely low.
