CCSO seeks help identifying person or persons who killed 6-month-old calf

Person or persons responsible may be charged with unlawful killing of livestock and animal cruelty

Coconino County Sheriff's Deputies and an Arizona Department of Agriculture Livestock Inspector are requesting assistance from the community identifying and locating an individual or individuals responsible for killing a six month old Black Angus Cross Heifer calf on the Randall Ranch.

The dead calf was found on Wednesday, July 27 in the area of the Kaibab Estates West Neighborhood close to Woodland Road. At the time it was located the calf appeared to have been dead for about 24 hours. The animal was valued at $800. Investigators are looking into the possibility that a rifle was used to shoot the animal multiple times.

Investigators believe the calf lived for some time and it obviously suffered a great deal. When the carcass was discovered the calf's mother was still standing close by it. Unlawful killing of livestock is a class five felony and an additional charge may be animal cruelty.

Anyone with information regarding this unlawful killing of livestock is urged to call the Arizona Department of Agriculture at 1-800-294-0305 or the Coconino County Sheriff's Office at 928-774-4523 or 1-800-338-7888 or Flagstaff/Coconino Silent Witness at 928-774-6111.
