Fourth of July weekend update from CCSO

Busy Weekend for Coconino County Sheriff’s Office

Flagstaff AZ- During the Fourth of July weekend beginning on Friday, July 1 through Monday July 4, Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 174 traffic stops and issued 39 citations.  Violations included speed, no use of seatbelts, no use of child safety restraint devices, DUI, minor consumption and other miscellaneous offenses.  Deputies arrested seven people for impaired driving, one offense was extreme DUI, and two were for minor drivers impaired by alcohol.  They stopped 15 off road vehicle operators and issued citations to two of them.  Deputies assigned to the Page AZ Patrol and Boating Safety Division made contact with 29 water craft operators and issued citations to seven of them.

Throughout the holiday weekend deputies responded to numerous calls of disturbing the peace to include: shots fired, illegal use or discharge of fireworks, loud parties, and fights at campgrounds involving multiple combatants who were impaired to some degree by the consumption of alcohol or some other substance.  Deputies also investigated numerous calls involving violations of fire bans.  Although there were a number of non-injury collisions involving vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-fixed object or vehicle-to-elk there were no collisions resulting in serious bodily injury or fatality.

Sheriff Bill Pribil and the men and women of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank county residents and visitors to our area for enjoying many of Coconino County’s natural attractions in a safe and responsible manner.
