Summary:
The above-normal temperatures
continue to be of concern for firefighter safety, and are accelerating
the reduction of fuel moisture despite the recent monsoon rains. No
rain
predicted. Smoke will be visible over the weekend due to the
pinyon, juniper, oak brush, and chaparral vegetation. On the
northern boundary, Forest Road (FR) 609 is being prepped for a possible
burn-out. Plans are to hold the fire at Oak Creek on the western
boundary and at FR 236-A on the east side.
Closure:
Forest Road 236-A is closed, which prohibits
entry into the Mistake Peak area. The fire is progressing north in the
direction of Bear Head Mountain. This road closure affects current
bear hunting activities in the area, and will potentially affect archery
deer hunting which begins Wednesday. As the
fire progresses, more road closures are anticipated. For more hunting
information, please contact Arizona Game and Fish at
