ADOT Update: I-17 closures expected throughout the night and into Saturday

Cattle truck crash causes intermittent lane closures - Crews clear crash south of Sunset Point

Phoenix - Southbound Interstate 17 will have intermittent closures throughout the night Friday and into Saturday (April 2) as Arizona Department of Transportation crews attempt to remove an overturned cattle truck south of Sunset Point at milepost 252.
ADOT reports that I-17 southbound will be closed until 5 p.m. today (Friday). After that, only the left lane will be open until further notices.
There may be additional closures Friday night and Saturday. Following the Friday morning crash, ADOT crews closed the right lane in order to clear the truck and debris from the roadway. Crews continue to clear the scene and make repairs.
Drivers heading Southbound toward Phoenix on I-17 should plan on delays and anticipate extra travel time or consider postponing their trip back to the Valley. If motorists opt not to wait out the closure, ADOT is advising drivers to take one of two detours:
  • State Route 260 from Camp Verde to State Route 87 to the Valley.
  • State Route 69 from Cordes Junction to Prescott, State Route 89 to Wickenburg, and US 60 to the Valley.
Drivers are advised to slow down as they approach the crash site and to be alert for equipment and workers.
