Gov. Brewer mourns the loss of U.S. Air Force Lt. Col Frank Bryant, Jr.

Governor order flags flown at half staff Friday, May 20

        PHOENIX – “It is truly an honor to recognize Lt. Col. Frank Bryant, Jr., a fine young American and a decorated 16-year U.S. Air Force veteran, who died in the line of duty on April 27, 2011, during his deployment as an air advisor to the 438th Air Expeditionary Advisor Group in Kabul, Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Bryant was assigned to the 56th Operations Group at Luke Air Force Base. He will be laid to rest tomorrow at Arlington National Cemetery.
        “Lt. Col. Bryant had an extraordinary career in the U.S. Air Force. He was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, became a decorated F-16 pilot, was a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and received numerous military awards. He is survived by his wife and son.
        “I ask all Arizonans to join me in thoughtful prayer and genuine reflection for the family of Lt. Col. Frank Bryant, Jr. May they feel proud of the many sacrifices made by this great American.
         “I encourage all Arizonans to take a moment to reflect upon the sacrifices made by those who serve our citizens in law enforcement, public safety and military professions. They risk their lives to protect us from harm. We are forever grateful.
        “I have ordered that flags be lowered to half staff Friday, May 20, in honor and recognition of Lt. Col. Frank Bryant.”
