62.4 Pounds of Drugs Turned In

Lt. Tim Scott

For Immediate Release

Northern Gila County residents cleaned out their houses of unused medication and turned it in for disposal on Saturday, April 30,  in front of Wal-Mart.

The Drug Enforcement Administration spearheaded the National Take Back initiative which was held on Saturday, April 30 in which residents of Northern Gila County had a location to get rid of unused or unwanted medication.  The Gila County Sheriff’s Office had their Mobil Command Center parked in front of Wal-Mart where the drugs were collected. The drugs will be turned over to the DEA and will be destroyed.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety, Payson Police Department and the Gila County Sheriff’s Office were present to receive the unwanted medication where it was deposited in boxes and packaged for release to the DEA.

Most of the people who turned in the medication said this was a great thing as they did not know how to properly get rid of the extra medication.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety and Payson PD would like to thank Wal-Mart for the use of their parking lot for this event and the local news media and radio stations for getting the information out to the community.  It was a great success and we would like thank all those individuals who turned in their old medication and helped to keep them out of the wrong hands.
