"Picket Fire" at 250 acres in the Tonto National Forest


"Picket Fire" on Tonto National Forest

On Sunday, May 8 at 11:39 a.m. several crews responded to a fire of unknown origin near Boyce Arboretum by Superior, Arizona in the Tonto National Forest.
By 4:15 p.m. Sunday, the fire was estimated to be at 200 acres with six engines, an air tanker and crews from Apache Junction and Queen Valley Fire Departments on the scene. 
By 7 p.m., the fire was reported to be at 250 acres with six engines, an air tanker, two Type 3 helicopters committed and an air tanker, a lead plane, and a Type 2 crew ordered from San Carlos Indian Reservation.
No structures are presently threatened. U.S. Highway 60 is now open but had been closed to ensure public and firefighter safety during the management of the fire.  An investigation continues into the cause of the blaze.
According to the latest information at 7 p.m. Sunday, the fire had settled down and winds had subsided.
