State Routes 261 and 273 partially closed due to Wallow Fire
US 191 in eastern Arizona remains closed as well
PHOENIX – The Wallow Fire in eastern Arizona has forced additional highway closures today, including sections of State Routes 261 and 273, the main access roads to Big Lake and Crescent Lake in the White Mountains. The Arizona Department of Transportation is working with fire officials to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
SR 261 is closed starting seven miles south of SR 260 to Crescent Lake (mileposts 394-405) and SR 273 is closed between Sunrise Park and Big Lake (mileposts 390-397). There is no estimated time for reopening the highways according to ADOT.
US 191 is still closed between Alpine and the Strayhorse Campground (mileposts 220-253) due to the Wallow Fire which is burning approximately 12 miles south of Alpine. Alpine is located approximately 25 miles south of Eager. The wildfire started on May 29.
