Fire rages in Eastern Arizona, forces closure of 33 miles of highway on US 191

US 191 closed due to Wallow Wildfire in Eastern Arizona

PHOENIX - The Wallow Wildfire forced the closure of US 191 between Alpine and the Strayhorse Campground (mileposts 220-253) on Wednesday, June 1, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. There is no estimated time to re-open the highway.

Alpine is located approximately 25 miles south of Eager in Eastern Arizona. The Wallow Fire started on May 29, approximately 18 miles southwest of Alpine. For more information on the Wallow Fire, go to the White Mtn Independent on our Local Links.
