Message from Governor Jan Brewer - fly your American Flag on June 14

Commemorating Flag Day

“On this day in 1777, the United States’ Second Continental Congress adopted the earliest version of the American flag, and we continue to celebrate its meaning every June 14 as part of Flag Day. Please help me commemorate this important moment in history today and the rest of this week by flying your American flag.

“As United States citizens, the American flag is the primary symbol of our nation’s freedom, strength, and unity. From its stripes representing the colonies to its stars representing the states, each component of the flag signifies the values that make the United States the greatest country in the world.

“Unfortunately, we as Americans too often take our nation’s flag for granted and neglect to truly recognize its roots and symbolism. Let us proudly wave our American flag today in honor of all that it represents.”
