Rim Country Literacy seeks tutors in math and language arts

RCLP Volunteer Open House is Friday, Oct. 7
Help Change Lives through Literacy.

The  Rim Country Literacy Program is actively seeking new tutors in Math and Language Arts . Anyone with a background and/or interest  in education is urged to contact RCLP. Additional volunteer help in the areas of office help, fundraising, and grant writing is also needed.

No other organization offers English language instruction or daytime GED preparation in northern Gila County. All services are offered free of charge.
RCLP moved to larger facilities in August – 1001 S. Beeline Highway, behind the Knotty Pine Café.  With the larger, more visible building, new students, seeking help,  have already found the Literacy Program.

The Rim Country Literacy Program is definitely an organization that is life changing for the people it helps. Rim Country Literacy Program (RCLP) began in 1994 with the vision of Lois
Johnson who had a passion for adult literacy.  Now in its 17th year, RCLP is the cornerstone of adult literacy in the Rim Country.

RCLP serves adults over 16 years of age who live in northern Gila County, generally the greater Payson area.  A satellite program has begun in Pine.   All the students in the GED program have dropped out of high school.   Most of the students in the English language program have the equivalency of an eighth grade education; a few graduated from a college in their home country.   English language learners represent seven different countries and six different languages.  . In 2010 RCLP served twice as many adults as in 2009 and doubled the number of instructional hours.  In 2011, they are up 65% from 2010.

If you are a retired teacher or interested in helping ,please contact Marilyn Horne, Program Director at 468-7257.  A Prospective Volunteer Open House is scheduled for Friday, Oct 7th at 10 am at RCLP’s new offices:  1001 S. Beeline Highway, Suite F.
