Stolen cattle guard grates on Tonto National Forest roads pose risks for unwary
Globe, Ariz. (March 24, 2011) - Two cattle guard grates have recently been stolen from roads on the Globe Ranger District prompting a public safety warning from forest officials.
“If you’re driving on a road where one of these grates has been removed without your knowledge, you could hurt yourself and damage your vehicle,” warned district ranger Rick Reitz.
“This is definitely one of those situations of ‘know before you go,’” advised Reitz. “You should know where cattle guards are placed on the routes you travel so you can slow down and make sure that the grates remain in place and haven’t been tampered with.”
An investigation into the thefts continues. For further information, please contact the Globe Ranger District administrative office at 928-402-6200.
