"Willow Fire" reported to be extremely active
A 300 acre blaze threatens structures just two miles away north of Bear Canyon Lake on the Mogollon Rim.
The Willow Fire, burning 44 miles northeast of Payson in the Apache Sitgreaves Forest, was reported at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 19, and is said to be extremely active with crowning and spotting.
Seven 20-person crews are currently at the scene with dozers, engines and aerial equipment. Additional crews have been ordered.
Helicopters remained grounded Sunday due to high winds that helped fuel the fire.
There is no information as to the cause of this latest fire in the Rim Country. Stage II fire restrictions have been in place in the area since June 3.
