ADOT reopens roads in White Mountains

ADOT reopens roads to lakes in White Mountains for summer season

SHOW LOW – The Arizona Department of Transportation will reopen several highways in the White Mountains that are closed each winter after the first snowfall, beginning Monday (April 16).

The following highways will reopen on April 16:
State Route 261 between Eagar and Big Lake
State Route 273 between Sunrise Park and Big Lake
State Route 473 between State Route 260 and Hawley Lake

ADOT encourages Arizonans to enjoy the mountains this summer and return safely by observing the following tips:
Make sure you and your passengers are buckled in
Check your vehicle before you go; proper tire pressure is important
Be patient (don’t speed and don’t follow other vehicles too closely)
Get an adequate amount of sleep before your trip
    Bring extra water and food
Build some extra travel time into your schedule
    Never drink and drive
Before you leave, check for information about highway restrictions across Arizona at ADOT’s traveler information web site, www.az511.gov or dial 5-1-1

Highway conditions update: I-17 and I-40 both open in Northern Arizona

No major highway closures in Payson, Show Low, Heber or Globe

PHOENIX – The two interstate highways in northern Arizona are open to traffic this afternoon (Monday) following heavy snow in the state’s high country, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Interstate 17 is open in the Flagstaff area, although drivers are urged to use caution due to icy conditions in some areas. ADOT snow plow crews have worked since Saturday evening to remove snow and ice from the highway.

Interstate 40 is open to traffic in both directions across Arizona. The highway had been closed in various locations since yesterday but crews were able to open eastbound I-40 between Ash Fork and Williams this morning.

The only Flagstaff area highway closed this afternoon is US 180 between Kendrick Park and the State Route 64 junction. The closure is beyond the entrance to Arizona Snow Bowl, northwest of Flagstaff.

No closures are reported along major highways in the Payson, Heber, Show Low or Globe areas. Drivers are still urged to be prepared for winter driving conditions along state routes 87 and 260 as well as US 60. Chains or four-wheel drive are no longer required on SR 87 or SR 260.
