$8,000 reward offered for information on killing of five wild burros

Reward grows to $8,000 for information on wild burro shooting

PHOENIX — As federal law enforcement rangers continue an investigation on the March shooting of wild burros within public lands in the Lake Pleasant area, local citizens continue to support the effort by increasing reward amounts for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s).
A Phoenix based C.E.O., Jonathan Thompson, added $1000.00 to the reward this week, bringing the total offer for information up to $8000.00.
On March 13, 2012, rangers found five dead burros in the Lake Pleasant Herd Management Area northwest of Phoenix in Maricopa and southern Yavapai counties.  The evidence collected indicates other animals may have been shot.  Wild burros and horses on public lands are protected by law under the Wild Free - Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971.
People who have any information on the burro shootings may call:  1-800-637-9152.  All calls are confidential.  If convicted of this Federal crime, the Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971, as amended, allows that the perpetrator(s) may be subject to a fine of up to $2,000 and/or imprisonment for up to one year for each violation.

Payson Police, FBI, Sheriff's K-9s search for suspect in Saturday's bank robbery

On Saturday, Jan. 21, at 3:19 p.m. the Payson Police Department received a 911 call and distress alarm from the Wells Fargo Bank Payson branch at 115 E. Highway 260, indicating there was an armed robbery.
Officers responded and arrived within two minutes and received information that the suspect had run from the bank in a southerly direction. The officers secured a perimeter in the area of S. Goodnow and E. Bonita.
A police K-9 training was being held in Payson and there were several K-9’s in attendance from the Gila County Sheriff’s Department as well as other departments. They immediately responded to assist and K-9 searches were conducted of the area near S. Goodnow for the suspect. Once that was completed, officers from the Payson Police Department Special Response Team conducted further door-to-door searches of the residences in that neighborhood.
As is normal procedure the Federal Bureau of Investigation was contacted and responded and is currently involved in the joint investigation.
As of this time the suspect has not been located.

CCSO utilizes web-based reporting service to track down suspect


Electronic music organ valued at $1,500 that had been entered by a pawn shop leads to arrest of Flagstaff man.
 
Flagstaff, AZ – Twenty-six year old Paul Anthony Martinez of the Flagstaff area was arrested by Coconino County Sheriff’s Detectives on Monday, Jan. 9 for one count of Felony Trafficking of Stolen property and one count of Felony Theft. 
 
On December 28 Sheriff’s Deputies investigated eighteen burglaries of mini storage units located in the Silver Saddle area.  The suspect or suspects gained entry by cutting padlocks off of the doors of the storage units.  Items that were taken during these burglaries include musical instruments, various tools and one of a kind collectable items.  During the investigation a Sheriff’s Detective ran descriptive information of property taken from the mini storage units through Leads Online.
Leads Online is a nationwide online investigation system used by law enforcement to recover stolen property and solve crimes. Leads Online is a web-based electronic reporting service used by law enforcement agencies and participating businesses nationwide.  The detective received a similarity record for the description of an electronic music organ valued at $1,500 that had been entered by a pawn shop located in Flagstaff .  The Detective contacted the pawn shop and received information that allowed him to identify and contact the individual who pawned the item. While speaking with detectives Mr. Martinez denied burglarizing the mini storage units, but admitted he believed the property he was in possession of was stolen.
Coconino County Sheriff’s Detectives are continuing this investigation in an effort to identify additional potential suspects and recover more stolen property. San Tan Valley pawn shop robbed twice in one morning - 50 guns taken

San Tan Valley, Ariz. – The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with agents from Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) to track down at least three suspects who robbed a San Tan Valley pawn shop twice in the same morning and made off with around 50 guns.
On Thursday, Jan 5, PCSO detectives were called to Perfect Pawn and Jewelry located at 40975 N. Ironwood Dr. Suite B-111, in San Tan Valley, AZ, after employees noticed someone had broken into a back storage room.
Surveillance video from the store showed at least two suspects initially broke into the unit at 1:52 a.m., and took numerous firearms. The video also showed a second theft involving one suspect that occurred at 7:27 a.m. where more firearms were taken. It is unknown if the two thefts are related.
Because the robbery involved a Federal Firearms Licensee, the suspects face federal prison time in addition to numerous local charges of the state. ATF is offering a $5,000 for information leading to the arrests and conviction of those involved. Additionally, investigators are seeking the public’s help with information on the location of any or all of the stolen firearms.
Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “We have measures in place to prevent violent offenders from obtaining weapons and when something like this happens it sends chills down the backs of law enforcement to think about what hands these stolen guns could end up in. I want to thank the ATF for their resources and support in attempting to locate these criminals and getting these weapons off our streets.”
Wayne Dixie, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, ATF Phoenix stated, “Through experience, we know that stolen firearms are used in furtherance of additional criminal acts. It is a priority that we apprehend these individuals. Law enforcement is seeking assistance from the public in locating these weapons and identifying those responsible.”
