San Tan Valley, Ariz. – The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with agents from Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) to track down at least three suspects who robbed a San Tan Valley pawn shop twice in the same morning and made off with around 50 guns.
On Thursday, Jan 5, PCSO detectives were called to Perfect Pawn and Jewelry located at 40975 N. Ironwood Dr. Suite B-111, in San Tan Valley, AZ, after employees noticed someone had broken into a back storage room.
Surveillance video from the store showed at least two suspects initially broke into the unit at 1:52 a.m., and took numerous firearms. The video also showed a second theft involving one suspect that occurred at 7:27 a.m. where more firearms were taken. It is unknown if the two thefts are related.
Because the robbery involved a Federal Firearms Licensee, the suspects face federal prison time in addition to numerous local charges of the state. ATF is offering a $5,000 for information leading to the arrests and conviction of those involved. Additionally, investigators are seeking the public’s help with information on the location of any or all of the stolen firearms.
Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “We have measures in place to prevent violent offenders from obtaining weapons and when something like this happens it sends chills down the backs of law enforcement to think about what hands these stolen guns could end up in. I want to thank the ATF for their resources and support in attempting to locate these criminals and getting these weapons off our streets.”
Wayne Dixie, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, ATF Phoenix stated, “Through experience, we know that stolen firearms are used in furtherance of additional criminal acts. It is a priority that we apprehend these individuals. Law enforcement is seeking assistance from the public in locating these weapons and identifying those responsible.”
Anyone with information should contact the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office 24hr hotline 520-866-5116.
