PHOENIX — Interstate 17 northbound has been reopened this evening at the junction of State Route 179, the Sedona turnoff, after ADOT snowplow operators worked to improve icy conditions due to heavy snowfall earlier in the day. Travelers are advised that I-17 could be closed again if conditions worsen overnight.
Eastbound Interstate 40 is closed near Ash Fork, west of Flagstaff, due to a serious crash. Eastbound I-40 traffic was being detoured to southbound US 93.
Meanwhile, State Route 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff, and US 180 north of the Arizona Snow Bowl turnoff near Flagstaff will remain closed tonight due to snowpacked and icy conditions. Officials will reassess the conditions of those highways on Sunday.
As conditions change, ADOT will inform drivers via the media, roadway message boards and other communication.
Before heading out on the roads, drivers are encouraged to call 5-1-1 or log on to ADOT’s Traveler Information Center at www.az511.gov for the latest highway conditions around the state. The website features images along state highways that give drivers a glimpse of weather conditions in various regions. Driver safety tips are available from ADOT at www.azdot.gov/KnowSnow.
