Bus aide arrested for attempting to lure PHS student into sexual acts

60-year-old Happy Jack man arrested

A 17-year-old female student at Payson High School alerted school staff members Tuesday, Feb. 15 of an attempt by a school bus aide from another district to engage in sexual acts.

Staff members at the high school then notified Payson Police of the incident and a subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of a Crested Butte School District bus aide, Michael Flood, 60, of Happy Jack.

According to police, Flood cultivated a relationship with the PHS student over several weeks time and encouraged the girl to ditch school to engage in sexual conduct with another person (who was not identified). The 17-year-old female refused and reported the incident to school officials.

After a week-long investigation, Payson Police arrested Flood on Tuesday, Feb. 22 and booked him into the Gila County Jail on a charge of luring a minor for sexual exploitation.

The investigation is on-going to determine if there are any other victims. Police say the Crested Butte School District has been highly cooperative during the investigation.

Parents who are concerned about their children having inappropriate contact with Flood are asked to contact Detective Michael Varga at (928)474-5177.
