Update on "Picky Pete": The Pinal County Sheriff's Office announced Friday, Sept. 23, that the missing statue of gold miner, "Picky Pete" was found in a ditch at 2200 Star Avenue in Apache Junction. Pete sustained minor damage to his feet and head and was returned to the owner and his place outside the historic Dutchman's Hideout Mining Camp Restaurant in Apache Juncion.

On Tuesday, September 20, Pinal County Sheriff's deputies were called to the area of Highway 88 and East Mining Camp Street in Apache Junction for a reported theft. The photo above shows the sign prior to the theft. The statue of the gold miner was stolen on the evening of September 19 or early morning hours of September 20.
After arriving on scene, deputies were informed that the large metal statue, known as "Picky Pete" had been removed from its cement and rock base which stood next to a larger sign advertising the historic Mining Camp Restaurant located at 6100 East Mining Camp Street in Apache Junction.
Investigators could see someone had forcibly removed the 9-foot figure which weighs 150 pounds and is valued at $1,500. The owner is offering a $500 reward to anyone with information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
