Napolitano: "America is a stronger, safer and more resilient nation than we were on 9/11"
NEW YORK—Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today traveled to New York City to participate in several 9/11 commemorative events honoring the families of 9/11 victims, and first responders.
“As we mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we honor Americans, and citizens from more than 90 countries, who were taken from their loved ones,” said Secretary Napolitano. “Thanks to the efforts of innumerable brave men and women, America is a stronger, safer, and more resilient nation than we were on 9/11. This weekend, we continue to urge the American public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities—simply put, if you see something, say something.”
Secretary Napolitano addressed families, survivors, and rescue and recovery workers at the Voices of September 11th Day of Remembrance event, underscoring the resiliency of the nation and strides on all fronts to respond to all threats, and keep us safer and more secure.
While in New York City, Secretary Napolitano toured the World Trade Center Memorial and Museum, and attended the Fire Department Memorial Service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, paying tribute to the memories of the 343 members of the New York City Fire Department who sacrificed their lives a decade ago. Secretary Napolitano also visited the state-of-the-art NYPD Joint Operations Center which coordinates law enforcement efforts in New York City.
At LaGuardia Airport, Secretary Napolitano joined U.S. Representatives Peter King, Joseph Crowley and Nita Lowey in a town hall meeting with Transportation Security Officers, Air Marshals and U.S. Customs and Border Protection representatives, thanking them for their efforts to keep the traveling public safe.

Governor Tim Murray, Senator John Kerry, Senator Scott Brown and other officials at a 9/11 commemorative Flag Lowering ceremony and will deliver remarks at the House Chamber Memorial Service at the Massachusetts State House.
