Woman in serious condition in hospital with self-inflicted wound from 12-guage shotgun
Flagstaff , AZ – A 27 year old female, who was hunting for turkey with her boyfriend on the North Kaibab Forest sustained an accidental self-inflicted wound from a 12 gauge shotgun while disassembling a hunting blind after the day’s hunt. The victim sustained serious injuries to her left side and back area from the discharge of the firearm.
On the evening of September 30, 2011, Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Page Patrol Division responded to the report of the accidental shooting near Sowats Point on the North Kaibab National Forest . The Fredonia Marshal’s Office, Kane County Medical, and Intermountain Life Flight were sent to the area to assist with locating and treating the victim while deputies responded.
Approximately one hour after the shooting medical personnel from Kanab and Fredonia located the victim near Sowats Point and began procedures to treat and transport her to the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George , Utah . The victim was stabilized and was able to speak with Deputies about the incident from her hospital bed. Although the victim’s injuries were very serious they were not life threatening.
