Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake starts Friday, October 7

39th Annual Tempe Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake
Tempe, AZ, Oct 4, 2011 - OOMPAH! Tempe Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake provides free admission, free entertainment, beer and wine gardens, kids' games, German food, non-stop polka, a great carnival, plenty of parking and lots of fun! This year marks the 201st anniversary of the original Oktoberfest - it all started as a royal Bavarian wedding in 1810.
This year's festival features 22 German Beers, including the very first Oktoberfest beer, plus the world's oldest brewed beer and the world's oldest monstery brewed beer shipped specifically from Regensburg, Germany. Regensburg's Mayor will be tapping the official keg on Friday, Oct. 7 during the opening ceremonies. Patrons can enjoy German Beer Taste Testing Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9 from 12 p.m. till 3 p.m.

But it's not all about the beer. In celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Bringing the World together, one friendship at a time," Tempe Sister City invites all the families to come out and enjoy FREE Merri-Go-Round rides. There will be a huge carnival, arts and crafts, and of course, non-stop polka.

This year Tempe Sister City has teamed up with the Frank Kush Youth Foundation to produce the Frank Kush Das Family Fun Run, to start your Saturday, Oct 8 morning off with that oomp-pa-pah that can last all day. 5K or 5 mile, 1 mile fun run will kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday, October 8 with a run/walk around Tempe Town Lake. Polka band Das Aubachtal Sextett from Regensburg, Germany will entertain runners before the race begins. The race ends on Oktoberfest grounds where runners can enjoy a complimentary beverage from our early bird beer garden.

On Sunday, Arizona Adopt a Greyhound Inc., will host “Wiener Mania” where pure-bred German Dachshunds race, not for the rabbit, but for their owner's treats. This event is a hoot! After watching these guys scamper the 50 yard course, you'll no longer ask "Wa hoppin to your legs lil' buddy?"

Come down and see what 200,000 people will enjoy over the weekend, all for a good cause, "Bringing the World together, one friendship at a time."
