Major storm could lead to possible dust storms later this week

Major storm anticipated for Southern Arizona could mean possible dust storms and difficult driving conditions.

Wednesday, November 02, 2011 - The National Weather Service has released an advisory regarding a strong cold front that will be moving through southern Arizona on Friday, November 4^th. This cold front could potentially cause high winds and major dust storms in southern Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) would like to remind drivers that this type of weather system could cause potentially dangerous driving conditions and we would like drivers to remember the following advice if they happen to encounter a dust storm:

1) If you are aware that you are approaching a dust storm, exit the interstate and wait for the dust storm to pass

2) If you find yourself in the middle of the dust storm, turn on your lights and slow down. Keep in mind, if you stop on the roadway it could potentially hurt you and others

3) If you find it necessary to stop, pull completely off the roadway, turn your lights off, and take your foot off of the brake

4) Have emergency items such as food and water in your vehicle in the event you are stranded for an extended period of time
