Parks, AZ man attacks relative with Samurai sword, is arrested for attempted homicide

Parks Man Arrested for Attempted Homicide

Flagstaff, AZCoconino Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives arrested twenty-one year old Dustin Charles Banbury of Parks Arizona for attempted homicide of a thirty-three year old male relative who also resides in Parks, Arizona.  The arrest occurred after an extensive investigation beginning with a 911 call to the Sheriff’s Office reporting a critically injured victim in a home at Parks at about 11:00 pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
Upon their arrival Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies found the victim inside his residence with numerous slash wounds from a large bladed weapon to include a severed right hand. Banbury was also present at the residence and was quickly taken into custody without further incident    Medical personnel who attended to the victim included Ponderosa Fire District and Guardian Medical Transport.  After receiving initial medical treatment at the scene the victim was flown to the Flagstaff Medical Center by Guardian Air.
During their initial investigation deputies and detectives learned that the suspect lives in a trailer that is located on the same lot where the victim’s home is located.  According to statements made by the victim and suspect, detectives believe that late Tuesday evening the suspect was with the victim inside the victim’s home, the victim fell asleep and the suspect walked to his trailer and obtained a “Samurai Sword” that belonged to him and returned to the victim’s home.  Once inside that victim’s home Banbury found him still in his bed. 

According to information gathered Banbury allegedly began to slash the victim with the sword numerous times.  Injuries sustained by the victim include a severed right hand, a deep laceration to the forehead, and severe lacerations to his upper and lower torsos.
Detectives found the Samurai sword with blood on it lying on the floor of the victim’s bedroom. Banbury was booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Attempted Homicide.  The victim who remains at the Flagstaff Medical Center is listed in stable condition.  Detectives are continuing this investigation in an attempt to determine the circumstances that lead up to the attack and the motive.
