Thursday, December 08, 2011 -

On Dec. 7, at approximately 7 p.m., the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Special Operations Unit served a search warrant at 10938 W. Locust in Avondale. As officers made entry into the house, six people ran out of the master bedroom, smashing through the glass, severely cutting themselves. Four of those people were identified as suspected human smugglers.

Also inside the house were 19 victims (two females and 17 males). One of those victims had sustained fractures while being held captive by the human smugglers. That victim was taken to the hospital along with two other victims who had suffered multiple lacerations at the hands of the human smugglers.

It should be noted that several victims rescued from this house had been arrested in the past for such crimes as drug possession, weapons misconduct, child abuse, crimes against children and even murder.

The suspects brought the victims into the residence and beat several of them with a curtain rod, wooden sticks and pistols as punishment for not paying the extortion fee. All of the victims were placed in a boarded up room and their belongings were taken.

All four human smuggling suspects were captured and two of them were transported to an area hospital for lacerations from crashing through the window. Also seized was 15.5 pounds of marijuana and $1,000. All victims and suspects are Mexican nationals. The victims are in the custody of ICE. All four suspects were booked into the 4th avenue jail.

Suspects: Manuel Castro, 29, Mexican National; Anslemo Mancinas, 29, Mexican National;Enrique Alfredo Perez, 20, Mexican National; Ivan Rodriquez, 29, Mexican National
