Governor orders flags flown at half-staff for 20-year veteran officer killed Sunday

Statement by Governor Jan Brewer

Mourning the Loss of MCSO Deputy Coleman
“This is a day of sadness for the Arizona law enforcement community, as we mourn the loss of Maricopa County Deputy Sheriff William H. Coleman.
“Deputy Coleman, 50, was a 20-year veteran officer and a resident of New River. He was killed early Sunday morning while responding with other deputies to a reported burglary in Anthem. This tragedy is one more example of the danger that our brave members of law enforcement confront on a daily basis. We owe them our gratitude.
“As Arizonans go about their business on this Sunday, I ask that they offer a prayer to the friends, family and MCSO colleagues of Deputy Coleman. I know I will.
“In honor of Deputy William H. Coleman, I have ordered flags lowered to half staff until sundown today, January 8, 2012.”
