Statement by Governor Jan Brewer
Mourning the Loss of Marine Cpl. McGeath
"This is a day of sadness as Arizona mourns the death of another one of its bravest: Marine Cpl. Phillip D. McGeath. But it is also a day of pride for a state that continues to produce courageous individuals like him – men and women who put their lives at risk in service to the nation they love.
"We owe Cpl. McGeath our eternal gratitude. Please join me in offering a prayer for his family and friends, who will need Arizona’s support at this most difficult of times.
"In honor of Marine Cpl. Phillip D. McGeath, I have ordered state flags lowered until sundown today, January 20, 2012." "Cpl. McGeath, 25, was killed January 18, 2012, while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. A Glendale resident, Cpl. McGeath was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, and was based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
