ADOT update on northern Arizona road closures

I-40 now open across Arizona, I-17 also open, but winter driving conditions remain.
Chains or four wheel drive required on SR 87 north of Payson




Update 9:40 a.m. – Interstate 40 is now completely open across northern Arizona. Interstate 17 is also open between Phoenix and Flagstaff, but winter driving conditions are still present on both I-17 and I-40. Chains or four-wheel drive are required on State Route 87 north of Payson.

Update 9:00 a.m. – State Route 87 between Payson and the top of the Mogollon Rim has reopened. Drivers can now use SR 87 between Payson and Winslow. I-40 remains closed between State Route 89 at Ash Fork and Williams. US 180 remains closed from near Kendrick Park to SR 64 at Valle. US 180 is open to the turnoff to the Snowbowl. All state highways in the White Mountains are open but snow packed and icy. Chains or four-wheel drive are required on State Route 260 between Payson and Heber.
Update 5:00 a.m. – Westbound Interstate 40 has reopened between Ash Fork and Winslow. Eastbound I-40 remains closed along that same stretch. State Route 87 is closed between Payson and the top of the Mogollon Rim.
