Historic gun barrel from USS Arizona shipped from Virginia to Arizona

The above photo is the USS Arizona Battleship “Rifle” Gun Barrel that was shipped via flatbed truck from the U.S. Naval Support Facility Dahlgren, Virginia on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, twenty-two miles to the flatbed railcar for shipment to Arizona.
Many people were stopping their vehicles on the sides of the road to take photos of the gun barrel movement. I do not know if there will ever be another move of this magnitude, a U.S. Battleship gun barrel move from the east coast to almost to the west coast, several thousand miles. I thought I would share this with you, it was an honor to be part and to take part in this historic move.

The above photo and information is courtesy of Col. Bill Sahno (Ret.) of Payson, Arizona via email from Robert A. Flores.

  1. I would like to go see the rail car as it passes by. Does anyone know it's route and schedule?
