calls for service during Memorial Day weekend

Flagstaff, AZ The men and women of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office stayed very busy responding to calls for service as well as conducting proactive law enforcement and public education contacts during the Memorial Day Weekend.  In an effort to reduce the number of serious injury and fatality collisions involving ATVs Deputies, Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Volunteers, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers conducted hundreds of ATV safety awareness contacts with off road enthusiasts throughout the county.  In addition to the ATV Safety information, safety information regarding the county fire ban was shared with the public during these outreach campaigns as well.  Boat safety outreach campaigns also were conducted on Lake Powell during the weekend.

Between the time frame beginning at midnight Thursday, May 24, 2012 and ending at midnight on Monday, May 28, 2012 Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to ten vehicle collisions three of which involved All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) and one involving a boat.  ATV occupants were injured to varying degrees, the incidents occurring in the Williams, Cinder Lakes and Mormon Lake areas.
