Lightning caused Bull Flat Fire at 70 acres south of Canyon Creek Fish Hatchery

BULL FLAT FIRE
Location:
 Fort Apache and Tonto National Forest, Payson Ranger District
 Latitude: 34° 13’ 45” x Longitude: 110° 46’ 46” W
 Township: 10N, R15E, Section 19
 S. of Canyon Creek Fish Hatchery
Start Date: May 10, 2012
Size: approximately 50-70 acres, at least two-thirds are on Fort Apache Indian Reservation.
Cause: believed to be lighting caused, but is still under investigation
Percent Contained: N/A – fire is in initial attack phase
Resources Assigned:
 Firefighters: 3 Hot Shot Crews (Fort Apache, Ironwood and Black Mesa)
 Engines: 4 Type 6 Engines
 Air Tankers: 2
 Helicopters: 3
 Dozer: 1
Evacuations: None at this time
Structures Threatened: No structures are imminently threatened.
Summary: The fire was ignited in a remote area. Fire was established in Canyon Creek and Hells Canyon. Fire behavior is mainly active on the ridge tops in the brush, grass and the dead and down fuels. Fire is creeping in the drainages and burning in the understory.
