Police investigating home arson fire
On May 30th, 2012 at approximately 1:15 AM, the Payson Police Department received a phone call from a citizen who reported that a house was on fire at 602 S Highland Dr. The Payson Fire and Police Departments responded and found the interior of the residence burning. The Fire Department extinguished the fire saving the structure. The residence was lived in at the time but no one was home at the time of the fire. Upon investigation of the fire, it was determined that this was an intentionally set fire. The Payson Police Department is continuing the investigation of this as an arson case. If there are any citizens who have information regarding this particular incident, the Payson Police Department requests they contact Detective Matt Van Camp at 928-474-5242 ext. 251.


Customer victim of armed robbery at Chase Bank ATM
On May 20, 2012, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a local citizen was conducting a transaction at the drive up ATM located at the Chase Bank in Payson. While conducting the transaction, an unknown male, wearing a black ski mask, dark colored t-shirt, and light colored pants, approached the victim’s vehicle from behind, brandished a silver colored handgun and demanded the victim’s money. Once obtaining the money, the suspect fled in an eastbound direction.

Evidence obtained from the crime scene is presently being analyzed by the Department of Public Safety to assist in the identification of the suspect. Anyone having information that may lead to the identification of the suspect is urged to contact Detective Varga at (928)474-5177 ext 271.
