SR 87 closed 30 miles south of Payson due to semi rollover

Semi Rolls Over on SR 87 Causing a Significant Closure

At 1130 this morning, a semi-truck carrying oil rolled over on State Route 87 at milepost 228, 30 miles south of Payson. The oil, used to make asphalt, spilled into northbound lanes, southbound lanes and the immediate area surrounding the crash. DPS and ADOT Hazmat crews are working on the clean up and the closure is expected to be in place for an extended period of time.

We have not ruled out speed as the cause of the crash.

The driver of the crash suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported to Scottsdale Osborne by ground ambulance.

DPS is advising those who wish to travel to and from Payson to use I-17 and then SR 260 into Payson or US 60 to SR 88 then onto SR 188.

ADOT has established the road closure and for updated conditions please monitor ADOT’s website, az511.com, for updated road conditions.
