Guns, electronics and other valuables taken from RV's and toy haulers on public lands in Northern Arizona
Flagstaff, AZ – Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating multiple burglaries of Recreational Travel Trailers left unattended on forest service land. On September 8, 2011 deputies responded to Forest Service Roads 125, 124, and 9489K for reports of forced entry and burglaries of at least six RV’s and Toy Haulers. All of the trailers were unoccupied at the time. Items stolen included guns, electronics, and other valuables. The burglaries are believed to have occurred between the evening of September 7, 2011 and the morning of September 8, 2011.
Anyone with information about these burglaries or information about suspicious activities, persons, or vehicles in these areas or elsewhere on the forest is encouraged to call the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office at 928-774-4523, select option 1 for Dispatch.
If you have an unattended trailer on public land, you are encouraged to check it as soon as possible. Please remember these important tips which may reduce your vulnerability to vehicle/trailer burglaries:
- Lock ALL your vehicle's doors and windows and don’t leave your vehicle unattended for extended periods of time.
- Don't leave valuables in your vehicle!
- Turn on alarm or anti-theft devices when you leave.
- Mark your valuables – keep a record of makes, models, and serial numbers and engrave your valuables with a personal identifier.
- Report suspicious activity, persons, or vehicles immediately to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office at 928-774-4523 or call 911.
- If you are the victim of a burglary, report it to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office immediately. Do not touch/adjust anything in, on, or around the vehicle until advised by law enforcement that it is alright to do so.
