Statement by Governor Brewer
Flags at Half-Staff Sunday in Memory of 9/11
PHOENIX – “Ten years ago Sunday, more than 3,000 innocent lives – including those of approximately 400 police officers and firefighters – were cut short in an unabashedly evil terrorist attack on the United States of America. We will never forget the images from that fateful morning. We will never forget where we were when we witnessed the moments that would change the United States – the world – forever. We will certainly never forget the victims.
“Out of the profound sadness, outrage and confusion over the morning’s events came a sense of unity. Americans joined together as a nation to mourn the victims, including the first-responders who gave up their lives in a selfless bid to save others. With the tenth anniversary of 9/11 upon us, I ask that we once again come together to pay tribute to the victims, pray for their loved ones left behind and salute our service men and women who fight to preserve our freedom. May God continue to bless and protect our troops just as they protect us in the fight against terrorism.
“In accordance with Executive Order 2010-18, I have ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Arizona be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol and all state public buildings and institutions from sunrise until sunset on September 11, 2011. I encourage individuals, businesses and other organizations to join in this tribute.”
