Facility maintenance volunteers wanted on Tonto National Forest
Mesa, Ariz. (November 7, 2011). Mesa Ranger District officials announced openings today on the Tonto National Forest for facility maintenance volunteers. Volunteers would work with Forest Service staff to help maintain docks, rest rooms, picnic areas, and grounds on the Lower Salt River and Canyon and Saguaro lakes.
“ The district is operating at reduced staffing levels, so volunteers with facility mainteance skills would be invaluable to us” said acting district ranger Rocky Gilbert. “Mesa Ranger District is one of the busiest recreation areas in the Forest Service and we can use all the help we can get.”
“We provide in-depth training to our volunteers about the forest and their responsibilities. It’s also a great way to keep physically fit, enjoy the beauty of the desert, and help us get important things done.” Gilbert said.
Facility mainteance volunteers can complete a volunteer application for the program online at www.mrdvounteers.org, and forward it to Mesa Ranger District. For more information, call Mesa Ranger District at 480-610-3300.
Volunteers who are interested in other opportunities can find information on the Mesa Ranger District Volunteer Program on the website or call Mesa Ranger District at 480-610-3300.
