On Tuesday, May 1, just after midnight, Payson Police received a phone call from a concerned citizen who reported seeing flames in the wooded area of the 1400 block of North Highway 87.
Fire units and police officers responding to the report determined that there had been an
intentional fire set in that wooded area.

Upon investigation, it was determined that accelerants were used to start the fire. The Payson Police Department is continuing the investigation of this as an arson case.
Obviously, with the current conditions of the forested areas within the town limits, this is a concern.If there are any citizens who have information regarding this particular incident, the
Payson Police Department requests they contact Detective Michael McAnerny at the
Payson Police Department at 928-474-5242 ext. 255.
The public is urged to report any suspicious activity in the forested areas in and around the town.
