National Forest Volunteer Open House Saturday, Oct. 15
 at Mesa Ranger District

Mesa, Ariz. (September 26, 2011) An open house for individuals interested in volunteering at Tonto National Forest’s Mesa Ranger District is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, October 15 at the district’s administrative offices, 5140 E. Ingram Street, Mesa.

The open house will include a get-acquainted session for volunteers and staff members, followed by a Tonto National Forest presentation highlighting volunteer opportunities.  This will be followed by a question and answer period, and an opportunity for prospective volunteers to meet and discuss their specific interests with district staff members.

“The wilderness areas we have, combined with Canyon Lake, Saguaro Lake, and the Lower Salt River, offer outstanding opportunities for volunteers to get out into the beauty of Tonto National Forest while helping us get important projects done,” said Mesa District Ranger Art Wirtz.  “Our volunteer program offers a variety of options whether you want to be outdoors, helping us maintain our facilities, or providing program and administration support.”

Interested volunteers can find information on the Mesa Ranger District Volunteer Program at www.mrdvolunteers.org, or they can call Mesa Ranger District at 480-610-3300.
